Abstract
The textile industry has started to harness the latest advances in genetic engineering. Interest first focused on high tensile strength spider silk. Nexia Technologies recently announced success in producing large quantities of spider silk proteins in the milk of transgenic goats. Other areas of research have included work on sheep to increase both production and desired fibre properties, and genetically engineering cotton to control pests such as bollworm.
