Abstract

Visual loss and double vision can be caused by problems in many anatomic sites; thus, the critical first step is to determine the location of the problem prior to considering the possible etiologies. Both symptoms may represent neurologic emergencies, such as ischemia, temporal arteritis, pituitary apoplexy, infection, and aneurysm. Systematic examination with accurate localization is required for proper diagnosis and emergent treatment.
