Abstract

To the Editor: Recently, while studying the interrelations among oral-contraceptive use, cervical carcinoma and sexual factors, we made an unexpected observation that may be of considerable interest. This observation relates to the rate of sterilization and vasectomy, and we believe that it is provocative enough to warrant further study. Examination of data on contraceptives revealed a substantially lower rate of sterilization among patients with cervical cancer as compared with matched controls. Furthermore, the rate of sterilization among the controls or their partners (59.2 per cent) was almost identical to that in the larger drug-study population in the same age range.
