Use and interpretation of renal biopsy

This book represents a major advance in correlating the basic patterns of stress and injury to the kidney with the structural alterations they produce at various stages in the natural history of different renal diseases and in turn with their implications for renal function, therapy and prognosis. Section I deals with general aspects of kidney biopsy, like history, indications, and interpretation. Section II gives attention to renal diseases of acute onset. In the following sections the slowly progressive renal diseases, the nephrotic syndrome, and the renal diseases associated with systemic syndromes are described. Section 6 is devoted to kidney transplantation, and attention is given to transplant rejection and recurrence of the original disease in the transplanted kidney. Excellent photographs and schematic drawings of pathologic specimens are provided, elucidating the results of light-microscopic, electron-microscopic and immunofluorescent investigations.
