Abstract

The ultrastructure of damaged cortical bone was characterized using atomic force microscopy. Surface preparation techniques resulted in a thin smear layer that obscures the HA mineral-collagen fibril composite structure. Removal of this smear layer with a mild acid treatment revealed the underlying ultrastructural morphology.
