Abstract

Four distinct types of membrane response of Xenopus laevis oocytes to the application of acetylcholine (ACh) are described. The responses of single oocytes in summer are different from those in winter. The four response types differ in their dependence on the dose of acetylcholine and on the presence of calcium ions, and may appear solely or in various combinations in single oocytes. All response types can be elicited by oxotremorine and blocked by atropine.
