Abstract
While many therapeutic approaches to the psychological problems en countered in very young children have been utilized during the past two decades, there is a striking paucity of information in the literature on the rationale for the specific therapeutic modality, the details of the thera peutic work itself, and the clinical results. The consequence has been a burgeoning of methods of treatment of young children and their parents that cannot be evaluated systematically. We hope to encourage others to present their methods for evaluation and comparison by outlining the rationale as well as the clinical application of the tripartite therapeutic model that we began to employ in the late 1970s.
