abstract = "Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has emerged as an effective therapy for medically refractory essential tremor. Stimulation reversibility and adjustability give it a distinct advantage over ablative surgery. The ventral intermediate nucleus (VIM) of the thalamus is the commonest target implanted with numerous studies showing significant and sustained benefit. However, newer targets such as the caudal zona incerta have been reported to produce robust tremor suppression with fewer side effects observed from bilateral implants compared to thalamic DBS. A unilateral thalamotomy from focused ultrasound (FUS) remains a viable therapeutic option for those patients who are not DBS candidates or are unable to undergo the procedure.",
