Abstract
Contracture of the elbow frequently attends both major and minor joint trauma. Loss of motion constitutes a significant functional impairment. Successful treatment frequently requires extensive surgical capsulectomy, periarticular debridement and, if necessary, excision of the ectopic bone. Understanding the pathophysiology of the injury helps anticipate sites of contracture, which can be safely released through medial and/or lateral approaches. Excellent results are achievable with complete resection of all scar tissue and aggressive postoperative therapy. (C) 2000 Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Inc.
