Abstract
Tinnitus occurred in 34% of patients with chronic otitis media due to cholesteatoma. Postoperatively, an additional 12% developed this symptom. Following tympanomastoid surgery, a slight depression of bone conduction was observed in patients both with and without tinnitus. Restoration or preservation of hearing acuity did not correlate with the presence or absence of tinnitus. Tinnitus is a common symptom in young patients with chronic ear infections.
