Abstract
Therapy for patients with erectile problems begins with the initial response of the clinician the stated concern. As therapy continues in the clinician's office, it can be enhanced in several key respects: by the specific attitudes conveyed, by the recognition of the contributions made by the psychological, physiological and relationship factors involved, and by the choice of treatment goals. A schemata of increasingly complex therapeutic modalities is presented which provides the individual clinician with a strategy and the criteria for deciding upon an effective treatment method. Suggestions for when and how to make appropriate referrals are given.
