Abstract
Keloids and hypertrophic scars represent an abnormal response to injury and are characterized by altered wound healing with excessive collagen deposition. Management of both types of scars is challenging because of resistance to treatment and recurrence. Despite the numerous therapeutic modalities available, controversy remains about what is the most appropriate treatment. This article reviews several of the monotherapies and combination therapies available to treat keloids and hypertrophic scars.
