The protective effect of EGCG on hydrogen peroxide induced SH-SY5Y cell injury

Abstract

Aim: To investigate the protective effect of EGCG on hydrogen peroxide induced SH-SY5Y cells injury in vitro. Methods: The protective effect of EGCG was observed by morphological identification, MTT assay, and LDH activity, while the expressions of bax and bcl-2 were detected by real-time PCR. Results: Compared with the group of H2O2 control, EGCG (50, 100, 150, 200 μmol · L-1) could relieve the damage of SH-SY5Y cells and increase the survival of the cells, lower their LDH level, and adjust the expression of bax and bcl-2 mRNA. Conclusion: EGCG can protect SH-SY5Y cells from the injury induced by hydrogen peroxide.
