Abstract
The Concept of schizophrenia has become a burden for psychiatry. Each revision and redefinition of the concept has only added to the confusion. Through a historical reconstruction of the development of the concept, this paper unearths the shaky foundation upon which all the many definitions of schizophrenia have been based. It also discusses an alternative method of classification, less “scientific” and perhaps more useful.
