The frequency of chromosome aberrations in Danish men at least 184 cm tall

Abstract

As part of a larger research program aimed at elucidating possible characteristics of the XYY male, the frequency of XYY men and other chromosome abnormalities in a well-defined population was studied. The starting population consisted of all 31,438 men born to mothers who were officially registered as inhabitants of Copenhagen and gave birth during the period 1944 to 1947. The height of 28,884 men was obtained. 4591 or 15.9% were at least 184 cm tall. The chromosomes of these men were investigated. 452 could not be reached. 41 abnormalities (1%) were found: 46,XYY (12); 47,XXY (16); 46,XY,Xdel(Y) (1); 46,XY,-22,+t(Y;22) (1); 46,XY,-15,+t(Y;15) (1); 46,X,inv(Y) (2); 45,XY,t(13q14q) (2); 45,XY,t(14q21q) (1); 45,XY,t(21q22q) (1); 46,XY,t(3;17) (1); 46,XY,inv(8) (1); 47,XY,+mar (2).
