Abstract
The amount of elastic fibers in livers obtained at autopsy from 12 patients with massive hepatic necrosis was studied by means of the Victoria blue stain, a variant of Shikata's orcein method, and correlated with the duration of the disease. The findings suggest a good correlation between the amount of elastic fibers in the liver and the duration of the illness. The demonstration of elastic fibers may help in evaluating the age of massive hepatic necrosis.
