Abstract
The effect of storage for 9 days in the cold on the nucleic acid content and virulence of ascites tumor cells was studied by chemical and U.V. methods, It was found that storage was accompanied by considerable loss of cellular RNA but not of DNA. Correlated with the loss of RNA is a reduction in virulence. Evidence is presented to indicate that the cells survive the storage period. The high constant DNA content as compared to other somatic cells may possibly be interpreted as evidence of polyploidy in ascites tumor cells.
