Abstract

For many years, the quest for an explanation of the etiology and successful treatment of uremic pruritus has remained unfulfilled. Stimulation either by pressure or puncture of cutaneous body points may offer a useful and effective therapeutic alternative. This communication restates an earlier report of successful treatment of uremic pruritus and presents the modernization of its approach. We explore the etiology and pathophysiology of uremic pruritus and a novel treatment approach for this distressing condition, which may accompany chronic renal failure.
