Abstract

An elongated styloid process is an uncommon cause of pharyngeal and neck discomfort known as Eagle's syndrome. It and related syndromes must be included in the differential diagnosis of unexplained sore throat, dysphagia and neck pain. The varieties of the stylohyoid complex syndrome and the embryology, anatomy, diagnosis, and treatment are described.
