Abstract

A number of Zn(AlO2)2 spinel samples for reducing sulfur content in FCC gasoline were prepared by different methods or using various zinc-containing compounds, such as zinc nitrate, zinc chlorides, basic zinc carbonate. Through the comparison of their desulfurization properties as additives, it is shown that the Zn(AlO2)2 spinel sample prepared by peptization with the basic zinc carbonate as the zinc source had higher crystallinity and desulfurization activity. It is also shown that the surface stability and the desulfurization activity of Zn(AlO2)2 spinel could be increased when adding a little of RE2O3 during synthesis. The evaluation results showed that when adding 10% Zn(AlO2)2 spinel additive into the steam-deactivated commercial cracking catalyst the sulfur content in FCC gasoline decreased more than 30%.
