Abstract

Through effective flow control techniques to reduce secondary losses is specially important for the aerodynamic design of low aspect ratio turbine component. In this paper, numerical and experimental methods are employed to exploit the effectiveness of upstream stream-wise vortex on downstream turbine cascade secondary flow, where the stream-wise vortex are generated by vortex generators positioned in front of the linear cascade. A comparative analysis of different stream-wise vortex is carried out. The results indicate that the stream-wise vortex has a significant impact on the cascade flow field, therefore, on the performance of the cascade. It is possible to reduce the secondary losses significantly through the interactions between stream-wise vortex and secondary vortices on the condition that the intensity and location of stream-wise vortex are reasonably determined.
