Abstract
Two series of europium complexes with heterocyclic ligand 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or β-diketones dibenzoymethane (DBM) and thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) were doped in polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to form composite hybrids. These systems were characterized by X-ray diffractometry, FT-IR and photoluminescent spectroscopy. Eu(phen)2CI 3(H2O)2 disassociates in the composites due to coordination of C=O of PVP to Eu3+ resulting in very different luminescent properties from that of the corresponding complex. Eu(DBM) 3(H2O)2 and Eu(TTA)3(H 2O)2 keep the coordination structure of β-diketones to Eu3+, but some supramolecular interactions exist between the complexes and PVP, leading to the slight change of the luminescent characteristics of the composites compared to those of the corresponding complexes.
