Structural parameter design of planar eddy current coils

The effects of a planar eddy current sensor's coil structural parameters on the sensor's sensitivity were analyzed using the Biot-Savart-Laplace theory to improve the sensitivity. A formula was derived to calculate the magnetic field gradient of the planar eddy current coil. The relationships between the magnetic induction density and the distance between coils with various structural parameters were determined from simulations and experiments. The results show that the planar eddy current coil sensitivity increases with increasing number of coils and outside coil diameter, and with decreasing inner coil diameter.
