Abstract
Taking the real steering system structure as reference, a steering force input model was established in consideration of the steering system elasticity and the steering rack dynamics. The model is a complete dynamics system including the left and right steering wheel axles, left and right track rods and the steering rack. The solution algorithm of steering system dry friction under slip-stick friction conditions was developed to describe better the nonlinearity of the steering system. The simulation results indicated that the suggested model can simulate accurately the vehicle steering performance, describe the mechanical characteristics of dry friction in the steering system. It is suitable for real-time simulation and has practical value in vehicle dynamics study.
