Abstract

A substantial part of our clinical and research activities has been devoted to efforts at improving diagnostic accuracy as a basis for the formulation of a sound therapeutic approach in patients with erectile disorders. This article briefly mentions some of the difficulties that may be encountered in the process of determining the role of organic factors in the pathogenesis of impotence. The assessment of nocturnal penile tumescence is considered a valuable ancillary diagnostic procedure, but a note of caution is raised until further experience with this method is acquired.
