Abstract

Soft tissue injuries are a very common presentation to the emergency department (ED) and encompass a wide array of traumatic injuries that need to be considered in the acute evaluation. They range from minor contusions and ligamentous injuries to an initially subtle compartment syndrome or dramatic open fractures and vascular injuries that immediately threaten the viability of the limb. The diagnosis can be particularly difficult when the trauma patient presents altered.
