Abstract

Italian Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) Study Group introduced clinical and neurophysiological scorings for the assessment of CTS. The paper evaluates comparability and correlations between the scales. In this study 181 symptomatic hands are examined. Females are about 2:1 vs males; there are not sex significant differences in the scoring distribution. There is close correlation between the two scores only for last steps of the neurophysiological one (3 to 1); for the first part of the scale (6 to 4) the correlation is inverse, and it is significant only for females. There is good association age-clinical score, better evident in females. The correlation with neurophysiopathological score is less clear and significant only in males. The side is not correlated with gravity and sex. Females with bilateral CTS are significantly younger than males. Pain is associated to greater clinical score but not to different neurophysiopathological one.
