Abstract

1. (1) Increased serum cholesterol and phospholipids occurred in protein-depleted rats who were refed with fat-containing TPN solutions. 2. (2) The effects of induced hypercholesterolemia in patients receiving fat emulsions as a major source of calories for prolonged periods should be assessed clinically, and the patients' serum cholesterol levels should be carefully monitored.
