Abstract

Using our recently developed acid-fixed nuclear binding technique, an EBNA-like antigen was detected in both virus-producer and non-producer baboon lymphoid cell lines that carried Herpesvirus papio (HVP. We designated the antigen as HUPNA. Serological comparison of EBNA and HUPNA showed that: (i) all EBNA-positive sera reacted with both EBNA and HUPNA; (ii) none of the anti-HVP(VCA)-positive baboon sera reacted with EBNA; and (iii) approximately half of the anti-HPV(VCA)-positive baboon sera tested reacted with HUPNA. HUPNA could not be visualized by anticomplement immunofluorescence in situ.
