Abstract
Most of the 10 patients did well because the injuries occurred in healthy eyes and the retinal tears were relatively small and favorable for surgical correction. Also, these patients were diagnosed and treated promptly. For this reason, the early detection of retinal damage associated with a contusion of the eye is of the greatest importance so that treatment may be applied and further damage prevented. Certainly, any person who is struck in the eye with a tennis ball should have a thorough ophthalmological examination, including careful study of the retina.
