Abstract
Rotator cuff pathology is common finding in the general population and its incidence increases with age. While a significant amount of progress has been made in the characterization of both rotator cuff anatomy and pathophysiology, controversy remains regarding indications for surgical intervention, surgical approach and technique, and the utility of biologic adjuvants to improve healing. This review will evaluate the current literature regarding the role and timing of surgical intervention in full thickness rotator cuff tears as well the postoperative outcomes associated with the various techniques utilized for rotator cuff repair.
