Abstract

With any new or emerging technology, especially ones that may be paradigm shifting, come the rightfully asked questions, “Is this really going to be an improvement?", or “Are the benefits worth the trouble/cost?", and “What are the relevant applications?" Every aspect of robotic surgery has been under investigation since it stepped on the scene. The greatest challenge for early adopters of robotics, and even for the current generation of robotic surgeons, is how to fully incorporate this still burgeoning technology into our surgical culture’s future from an academic, clinical, financial, and administrative perspective. It is the aim of this chapter to realize our robotic evolution while openly addressing its challenges now and in the future.
