Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy are commonly used techniques to evaluate the proximal and distal gastrointestinal tract. Adequate preparation is essential to allow good visualization and complete examination of the mucosa. This article addresses preparation for endoscopy and its associated risks. Suggestions to help minimize risk are provided.
