Abstract
Before 10 to 15 years ago, most hair restoration surgeons did not strip-harvest donor areas; also, follicular unit hair transplanting had not yet been perfected, and fewer follicles were being transplanted per session at that time compared to current methods. Because of the foregoing, hair transplant results that were acceptable at that time are cosmetically unsatisfactory by today's standards. Nearly all transplant results from before 10 to 15 years ago can be improved substantially with surgery that incorporates advances in hair transplant techniques provided that sufficient donor tissue is available. This article discusses these advances and their appropriate use.
