Abstract

Thin self-supporting targets of natural C and enriched 13C were bombarded by deuterons, and energetically resolved particle groups were observed for the nuclear reactions 12)C (d,p)13C g.s., 13C(d, p)14C g.s., 13C(d, α11B g.s., and 13C(d, α)11B* (2.14 MeV). Excitation functions at θlab = 90° were measured for deuteron laboratory energies from 150 to 350 keV. Angular distributions, from θlab = 45° to 135°, were observed for both targets at 183.6 and 198.8 keV, plus 300.5 keV for 12C and 262.3 keV for 13C. Astrophysical S-factors determined from the excitation functions show almost no resonant structure. All of the angular distributions are anisotropic and only weakly energy dependent, with the differential cross section largest at forward angles for 13C(d, p)14C g.s. but largest at back-angles for 12C(d, p)13C g.s. and 13C(d,α)11B g.s.
