Abstract

A method for the detection of mycoplasma-infected cell cultures is described which utilizes sucrose gradient sedimentation of supernatant fluids from cultures incubated with a radioactive precursor of RNA or DNA. The common strains of mycoplasma are found to band in sucrose at a density of 1.22-1.24 g/cm3.
