Abstract

As simulation as a modality has been evolving, evaluation and determination of areas for improvement has also been evolving. This chapter provides a brief historical perspective on quality improvement and the role simulation can play in these quality improvement efforts. Tools, tips, and methods are provided using case studies from both the simulation center and the acute care perspectives. The ideal situation is when there is a bidirectional relationship between the simulation center and the clinical sites that enable both to assess, implement, and evaluate activities for the betterment of patient care and outcomes.
