Abstract
Although thrombolytic therapy has long been the primary means of establishing the patency of an occluded coronary artery during acute myocardial infarction, direct percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty is an alternative means of restoring blood flow. The two treatment modalities are evaluated and compared with respect to effectiveness, feasibility, and cost.
