Abstract
Upon completion of the chapter, the student will be able to: 1. Explain key psychosocial domains to consider in an assessment of an older patient. 2. Describe the standardized assessment tools available in conducting a comprehensive assessment, with a focus on psychological, emotional, environmental, spiritual, and social domains. 3. Articulate the role of a social worker in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life of older people. 4. Describe the tools to ensure culturally competent assessment and care. 5. Articulate the prevalent problem of elder mistreatment and neglect. 6. Describe issues related to caregiving and caregiving burden. 7. Delineate several ways that the clinician can work with older patients to maximize independence, productivity and quality of life.
