Abstract
The production, characterization and clinical uses of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and its related antigens are reviewed, with particular emphasis on gastrointestinal diseases. The recent developments of monoclonal antibodies that recognize specific epitopes on CEA and related antigens provides promising new directions for the diagnosis and therapy of gastrointestinal cancers.
