Abstract
A case of primary pulmonary hemosiderosis of prolonged duration and unusual presentation in a 38-year-old woman is described. She suffered for over 20 years from unexplained attacks of iron deficiency anemia. Hemoptysis together with diffuse pulmonary opacities on chest X-ray suggested the diagnosis, which was confirmed by lung biopsy. Despite the long course of the illness, pulmonary function was preserved. The remissions between attacks were prolonged, and no treatment was necessary.
