Abstract
From 1971 to 1974 there were 9,119 deliveries at the City Hospital Center at Elmhurst. Of these, 8.2% were cesarean sections. The primary cesarean sections in multiparous patients are analyzed. They represented 52.5% of all primary cesarean sections. Cephalopelvic disproportion was a predominant indication for primary cesarean sections in multiparous patients, as it is in primiparous patients. Maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality are improved when the need for primary cesarean section in the multipara is evaluated early in pregnancy and labor and acted upon.
