Abstract

Twenty surgically castrated women and 65 female control subjects who presented with clinical symptoms of coronary artery disease were studied with selective coronary cinearteriography to determine the prevalence of angiographically documented coronary atherosclerosis. Our results suggest that women who have been surgically castrated for at least 5 years have no more coronary atherosclerosis than their ovary-bearing, age-matched peers, and that surgical castration does not adversely influence the risk of coronary artery disease created by coronary risk factors.
