Abstract

Utilization of bariatric surgery as a weight loss mechanism has risen over the past few decades, especially in women of childbearing age. While weight loss can improve fertility, pregnancy following bariatric surgery may pose certain unique risks to the mother and fetus. This chapter will discuss changes in fertility, risks of pregnancy in the bariatric surgery patient, and mechanisms to mitigate these risks.
