Abstract

Preanesthetic assessment of drug abuse patients not only includes the evaluation of organ system damage caused by the abused drug but also the evaluation of life threatening injuries, as violence and drug abuse often are related. The drugs most often abused, alcohol, cocaine, and heroin, and their interactions with some anesthetic agents are discussed in this article.
