Pre-conception planning for patients with neurological disorders

Abstract

This chapter explores the importance of pre-conception planning for patients affected by neurologic disorders. Counseling prior to pregnancy is paramount due to the possible impact of pregnancy on disease and vice versa. Planning allows for improvement of neurologic health and patient education to ultimately achieve pregnancy success. Specific neurologic disorders are discussed due to special planning tools and concerns, and key components involved in optimizing pre-pregnancy management, including diagnosis, history and physical, imaging, and medications, are investigated.
