Abstract

A group of 23 patients with severe generalized myasthenia gravis (5 thymomas and 18 nonthymomas) resistant to anticholinesterase, thymectomy, steroids, and gamma globulin were plasmapheresed. Seventy-four percent of patients showed excellent clinical response to plasmapheresis. Plasmapheresis is an effective treatment in patients with severe generalized myasthenia gravis resistant to other forms of medical and surgical therapy.
