Abstract
By now it has become almost a formula: In cases involving terminal care decision-making, patients' wishes should come first, and physicians should either observe them or bow out. The reality, however, is far from that simple. The complexity of the physician's problem in this situation is explored in this second part of a panel discussion convened by Geriatrics Editor-in-Chief Robert N. Butler, MD.
