Abstract

To analyze the presence of homologous sequences of human tumor supprossor gene bcl-2 in maize and rice, Southern hybridization was performed and positive signals were detected in these two species' genomes. FISH also was carried out for physical location of the bcl-2 homologous sequences in maize chromosomes. bcl-2 was hybridized onto the long arm of the fourth and the seventh chromosomes. The detection rates of FISH were 8. 10% and 6. 63%. The percentage distances from centromere to detection sites were 58. 07±4. 90 and 80. 34±3. 12 respectively. These results may provide important clues of the further research of the molecular mechanisms regulating the plant programmed cell death, and it may also benefit to further research on the relationship of programmed cell death between plants and animals.
