Abstract

The practice of orthopedic oncology includes primary bone and soft tissue sarcomas as well as metastatic disease to bone, and benign tumors. The goal of primary bone and soft tissue sarcoma treatment is curative, whereas the goal for treating metastatic disease is palliative. It is important to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions, this can be done with a combination if imaging, laboratory tests, and, if needed, biopsy. Treatment of these lesions ranges from observation to surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiation.
